The brief for this project came from London-based Crown Jeweler Garrard, and asked for a product that combined their heritage and traditions in the field with new technology and ideas. I came up with this silver pendant that houses the components from a USB memory stick. The idea was to provide this new technology of data storage with an outer apperance that reflected the value of the precious information stored within. Traditionally, the concept referred to the idea of a locket, which houses precious objects like pictures or a lock of hair.The design was kept minimal to fit in with a range of existing products in Garrards Collection. The only decorative element was in the form of the international symbol for a USB computer port, re-interpreted and set in precious stones. The piece has a removable chain, and can be worn as a pendant, on a keyring or connected to a belt-loop.
